“Representation matters,” Dr. Salaam said. “There is a history that fuels this distrust of the medical profession, and I know for an absolute fact that the Black community is at a point where they want Black professionals. My most fervent hope is that the workforce will reflect the nation’s diversity.”

“Give Kids a Smile is a wonderful free service offered to children in our community. For some parents, it makes the difference between ensuring their child gets the dental care they need versus having to put it off due to lack of financial means or insurance,” Commissioner Hynes said. “It’s heartening to see such a valuable resource expanded during a time of great community need.”

“Through their low tuition rates and 3+1 programs, Rowan College at Burlington County offers the most affordable path to higher education for residents of Burlington County,” said Felicia Hopson, director of the Burlington County Board of County Commissioners, which appointed Dr. Wright as trustee. “As a longtime educator and innovator, we believe Dr. Wright will be a valuable resource at the college as we work toward our shared goal of increasing college access for all students.”

“I love it because it has opened so many different doors and opportunities for me and has taught me how to be a team player,” Reidenbaker shared. “One of my favorite memories was from when I was in fourth grade on my travel team, and no one wanted to play goalie. I jumped at the opportunity and fell in love with the position. It just came naturally to me. Since then, it's been my position and continues to be the reason I love to play competitively.”

“We are constantly working on improving our cybersecurity program,” Warner said. “Our students can actually perform tasks in a live environment and understand how compliance works. They learn how to hack into systems and learn about web interfacing. When a student earns their degree with us, for me, as an instructor, I feel that they can step into an environment and perform tasks with a limited amount of training.”

“We recognize the significance of what this past year has taught us, and we continue to work toward finding common ground through difficult conversations, building up marginalized communities, advocating for equality and ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard,” said RCBC Education Instructor Corvena Francis-Denton, who chairs the African American Cultural Committee. “We still have work to do, and that’s why we’re here -- to continue to push forward and open doors.”

“Helping community members aligns with one of the core pillars of RCBC’s mission, so why not a local filmmaker? I thought it could provide an experiential learning experience to our students while also fulfilling our commitment to serving the community,” Mailhiot shared.

“Coming from a background where my future was very uncertain, it was something about the atmosphere, the independence and the professors with doctorates telling me to call them by their first name that changed things for me,” Anderson said. “It was something very enlightening and having success in class was a confidence builder. You know, it releases chemicals in your brain; it’s a good feeling. I’ve never lost it. To me, it was coming into myself and realizing I could do something.”
