Employer Minimum Profile Requirements

  1. Website with working URL
  2. Business Name 
  3. Physical Address (with a street name, not a PO box or residential address).
  4. Email Address
  5. Phone Number
  6. Name of a contact who can be reached at the address listed by telephone and email.

Handshake Opportunity Approval (Jobs and Internships) Guidelines 

We approve: 

  • Postings with clearly identified responsibilities and the identity of the employer.
  • Postings that meet the state minimum wage for the state in which the job is located.
  • Opportunities within commuting distance (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.) 
  • Opportunities outside of commuting distance (define above) if one of the following features is offered: Remote, Stipend, Housing or other relocation/room and board assistance (unless the employer is paying for or coordinating housing for students), Internships scheduled to take place during the summer or other school break period

We decline jobs or internships that: 

  • Unpaid experiences offered by a for-profit company. Postings that do not meet the minimum wage for the state in which the job is located. Exceptions may include nonprofit organizations, government agencies and compensation by stipend. 
  • Are 100% commission based. 
  • Require the student to pay any application fees prior to the position being accepted. 
  • Private individuals or families seeking in-home, home-based, or personal services (e.g., babysitting, elder care, tutoring)
  • Posted by third-party recruiters that do not identify the company they are representing in the posting
  • "Pyramid" or multi-level marketing structures, requiring or encouraging the recruitment of others to sell products or services;
  • Jobs requiring door-to-door or on-campus solicitations sales, or posting of materials, products, or services
  • Postings may not contain anything that is discriminatory, sexually explicit, obscene, libelous, defamatory, physically threatening, or illegal
  • Postings with spelling and grammatical errors
  • Require a minimum of, or working towards, a master’s degree
