Rowan College at Burlington County’s (RCBC) new Medical Billing Specialist program offers students entry into a growing healthcare career in less than one year.

Designed in partnership with local employers, the certification aims to increase the number of qualified applicants who can fill the growing demand for medical billers.

“I’m really excited to work with RCBC on this new certification program, as there is a growing demand for qualified medical billers,” said Acentus Practice Management President Crystal MacNeill. “RCBC was willing to develop a meaningful program to meet our specific needs.”

The courses are designed for students who have no prior experience in medical offices and cover such topics as records management, medical communication, anatomy and physiology, claims processing and billing, in addition to related subjects. Students who complete the billing certificate will have a head start toward RCBC’s Coding Certificate program.

“This new certificate is a perfect example of how Rowan College at Burlington County can respond quickly to the needs of local employers to provide the skills they need and our students with the opportunity to immediately enter the workforce in a high-demand, high-growth field,” RCBC President Dr. Michael A. Cioce said. “If you are looking to enter a healthcare career that will continue to grow and offer advancement opportunities, I encourage you to explore this new certificate.”

Labor data project that the number of positions in the field of medical records and health information technicians - including medical billers - will increase 13% by 2026, which is higher than most occupations.

Coding and billing are integral to healthcare. Aspiring medical billers who hold certification have better job prospects in this field, and professionals with credentials can expect higher salaries.
