Rowan College at Burlington County alumnus Blake Dunbar is intrigued by the human experience. Human behaviors, personalities, thoughts and emotions are just a handful of topics that drove him to pursue an education in psychology. 

“Particularly, I am fascinated by human behavior and observing how people can communicate with one another subconsciously through body language, facial expression and vocal tonality,” Dunbar shared. 

Blake dove into his studies at RCBC. During his time here, he earned recognition on the Dean’s List for four consecutive semesters while maintaining a GPA of 3.9 or better. He graduated with summa cum laude honors and received the Psychology Award, the Faculty Association Scholarship and the Baron Award for student leadership. 

Although highly focused on achieving his personal academic goals, Dunbar often put the needs of others ahead of his own. In fact, while studying at RCBC, he assumed the role of Vice President of Programming on the Executive Board of the Student Government Association. In this role, he spearheaded a student basketball tournament that raised money to pay for lunches of low-income high school students in Burlington County. 

Blake’s commitment to service also extended to the greater community. Over the years, he has helped children with disabilities train for the Special Olympics, volunteered at homeless shelters, tutored students who could not afford such services and also volunteered to help sort donated goods after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. 

Dunbar recently earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology, graduating summa cum laude, from Miami University of Ohio. There, he studied in the honors program and earned numerous awards for his academic and athletic accomplishments. Blake’s ability to form meaningful connections with others has served him well. At Miami University of Ohio, he worked as a peer mentor, where he motivated students to return to school, advised students who struggled academically and connected several people with internship opportunities. He continues to volunteer regularly in his local community. 

“There is always a way to succeed; you just have to be willing to put in the work. Focus on being the best version of yourself, and you will always win,” Blake says. 

In the future, Dunbar plans to narrow his studies to industrial organizational psychology or organizational behavior. He intends to apply the concepts he learns to create a more efficient workplace while improving employee health and well-being. He has accepted a full-time position as a Business Consultant with the McDonald’s Corporation.
