Chaqunia Bearfield walking the runway

When Chaqunia Bearfield began her college education as a Fashion Design major, she was nurturing a passion that had already materialized while she was in high school.

When she transitioned to RCBC, it was not an easy road, as Chaqunia battled chronic health issues during her first semester and second year. Bearfield, however, never missed a beat and submitted her assignments while in the hospital and recuperating at home. It was especially important for her to keep up with her work and to graduate on time. Combining the help of her professors with her strong work ethic, she did just that!

While Chaqunia is a passionate and talented design student, she is also an amazing runway model and her runway walk attracted the attention of the design students, making her the most sought-after model. Not only will you find her on the runways of the Fashion Department’s Annual Fashion Show, but you will find her on the runway of RCBC’s Black History Month- Fashion Noir and Atlantic City Fashion Week. Chaqunia is a natural at modeling but for her it is just for fun.

Bearfield’s real passion lies in her fashion brand label “Hydia” and helping school age children and young adults hone their interests in fashion and sewing. When Chaqunia transferred to Rowan University to study Costume Design, she also added a few other important activities to her agenda: Beauty in Distress, an organization she founded to support other fashion designers and Love & Luxe Collegiate which supports African American women. She is also the secretary of the Black Student Union.

The RCBC Fashion Department is so proud of Chaqunia Bearfield, and they look forward to hearing of her many more accomplishments when she completes her degree at Rowan University.
