Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) and Rowan University announced a new way for Engineering Technology students to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The two institutions signed an addendum to their 2019 partnership agreement that creates a new pathway for RCBC students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Rowan University.
“The EET program at RCBC is a great hands-on program that teaches you real skills and how to use devices that you will see on job postings,” said RCBC Electrical Engineering student Nathan Philbin.
Signed by officials from both schools, the Electrical Engineering Technology pathway joins a long list of associate to bachelor’s degree completion programs offered by RCBC and Rowan University. These pathways facilitate the transfer from community college to a four-year institution and save students money, expanding the opportunity for academic success in southern New Jersey.
“The partnership between Rowan College at Burlington County and Rowan University has saved students tens of millions of dollars in tuition over the past decade,” said RCBC President Dr. Michael A. Cioce. “Electrical Engineering Technology builds on that success and provides a way for more students to transfer to Rowan University and launch a career that will impact the regional economy.”
“Rowan’s new B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology is a highly applied, hands-on program that emphasizes manufacturing, production, operation, and implementation of electrical engineering solutions with a more accessible math curriculum,” said Robi Polikar, Rowan’s professor and department head of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering. “Students enrolling in the new EET program, will be immersed in the exciting and cutting-edge world of electrical engineering while gaining practical skills that employers highly value.”
Students will discover a fleshed-out curriculum on the new 2+2 pathway that covers mathematics, science, and engineering and includes exciting hands-on courses such as Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design and Rapid Prototyping, Embedded Systems & Internet of Things (IOT), Professionalism & Consulting as well as Electrical Power & Energy Systems. They will learn the responsibilities of an electrical engineer, including the design of electrical and electronic devices and systems, as well as their manufacturing, improvement, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Electrical engineers improve the efficiency and performance of projects and apply their practical skills and deep knowledge of technology to do so.
"This partnership exemplifies both institutions' commitment to providing students with seamless pathways to achieve their academic and career goals through 2+2 and 3+1 programs,” said Dr. Edem Tetteh, RCBC dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). “Working together will create more opportunities for our students to succeed and thrive in various engineering technology fields."
Electrical engineering is a thriving sector in South Jersey that is only growing. There were 2,954 jobs in Burlington County alone in 2024, and there is an expected 9% increase in jobs by 2033. Southern New Jersey employers that sought to fill jobs in this field in 2024 include Aerotek, Comcast, and RCBC partner Lockheed Martin, and hired for positions such as electrical engineering technician, field service technician, and maintenance technician.
“Engineering Technology degrees offer students a direct pathway into high-demand, hands-on careers that drive innovation across the region,” said Dr. Giuseppe Palmese, dean of the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering. “This new 2+2 program in Electrical Engineering Technology equips students with the applied skills and technical knowledge needed to contribute meaningfully from day one.
“Our partnership with Rowan College at Burlington County reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to high-quality, affordable engineering education. Together, we are building clear and cost-effective pathways that prepare students for success in the workforce and strengthen the regional economy.”
All students should meet with an advisor when registering for courses. Recommended courses will be offered for the two years at RCBC and the subsequent two years at Rowan.
