It’s almost finals season at Rowan College at Burlington County, Barons. That means it’s almost time to hunker down and study. Luckily, your college campus is full of serene spots for studious students to conquer their exams.
Usually, our number one suggestion would be outside in the fresh air on the quad at any of the tables or on the hammocks, but it’s a bit rainy this time of year. Taking that into consideration, we’ve trimmed our list to five indoors. Don’t procrastinate - head to these places alone or gather a group and get ready to crack open your textbook.
The Silent Zone
When your home is too full of distractions, and anywhere else on campus just won’t cut it, there’s only one place to go: The Silent Zone. While it sounds science fiction, it’s not - even if it is located among the genre in the library. In this corner of the library, no talking, music, or distractions of any kind are permitted - it’s just you, your work, and - please - a pair of headphones. It’s the ultimate place to tune out everything and focus on the chapters you need to read or the pages of an essay you need to write.
Laurel Hall + TEC building lounges
While we don’t mean to boast, the buildings on RCBC’s campus are indeed spacious and accommodating, full of classrooms, computer labs, and science labs for Barons to listen, learn, and experience. However, filling the gaps in between aren’t just spaces to sit and wait for your next class to begin - they can be places to study! Like the rotunda in Laurel Hall or the cozy corner of the TEC building, these spots are perfect if you don’t feel like migrating to the library after class. Pull out your laptop and work on a spacious table or sink into a cushioned seat, then grab a snack or a drink at the nearby vending machines and stay energized and hydrated.
Study rooms
Did you know RCBC has designated study rooms? Yup, closed-off areas in the library to work in privacy! There are four total, and they can be reserved once a day for up to two hours. It’s perfect for groups - although no more than six people - and it’s recommended not to be too rowdy, as the rooms aren’t soundproof. Concoct a game plan for your group presentation (utilize the whiteboards!), or study together to face a daunting exam as a united front. When you’re done, please clean up after yourself so the next group can enjoy the space as much as you did. Go to rcbc.edu/library/studyrooms to book one.
For vets - the Veterans Center
We’ve talked about the Veterans Center in our last listicle, but we’re mentioning it again because it’s just so convenient. Veteran students at RCBC! You have a space just for you in the Student Success Center. You can study your day away on the sofa or at a desk. Take a moment to charge your devices (at charging stations more likely to be open) to keep you studying for hours. There’s even a printer if you want to work more hands-on. Pause for a break and watch television, too! It’s all there, away from the rest of the world.
Mount Holly
Last but not least, for our arts students, we have a suggestion for the Mount Holly campus. It’s an obvious choice, but one that’s an assertion of our Barons’ excellent work. The main lobby at the Mount Holly campus is packed with tables to study, draw, sketch mock-ups, and write recipes, plus there are vending machines to snack at. But the best part is, when you need a break, just look up and admire the surrounding walls! There’s an abundance of artwork everywhere, crafted by students. It’s great if you just want to admire or need inspiration for your own work.
So, where to first?
