The Emergency Medical Technician Program at Rowan College at Burlington County provides a comprehensive introduction to emergency medical services in the pre-hospital setting. Students will learn how to assess and treat a variety of pre-hospital medical emergencies including, but not limited to, cardiac arrest, respiratory emergencies, trauma, emergency childbirth, diabetic emergencies, fracture splinting and wound care.
Students will attend hands-on training in the Rowan College at Burlington County’s Health Sciences Center state-of-the-art Emergency Medical Services simulation lab that includes high-fidelity patient simulators, ambulance simulator, a realistic emergency room, and an apartment setting containing a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Additionally, students will complete clinical rotations in accordance with SOP EMT-A40 consisting of an 11 hour scheduled hospital emergency department observation, and a two twelve hour ride-along experiences on a BLS ambulance.

These two courses (consisting of nine credits) must be taken in a single semester.
- EMS 101 Basic Emergency Medical Technician: 8 credits (Lecture: hybrid format)
- EMS 102 Psychomotor Skills for EMT Certification: 1 credit (Skills lab and clinical: face to face format)
Note: New Jersey regulations governing EMT trainings mandate that students must attend every class. Options for making up missed classes are severely limited and students must consider this commitment prior to applying.
- Attainment of the age of *16 by the first day of the program. *Minors enrolled in the EMT program are subject to limitations as describe in N.J.A.C 8:40A-5.2 Student Qualifications.
- Possession of a current CPR for healthcare providers card* from the NJ OEMS approved CPR Health Care Provide course list. * CPR courses taught online with no practical test requirement are unacceptable.
- Physical capability to perform all required skills and tasks of an EMT student.
- Must have good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition which would not be adversely affected by lifting, carrying, and balancing at times, patients in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds, with assistance). Must also have the ability to bend, squat, crawl, manual dexterity, sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder level, climb, kneel, push, pull, use fine finger movements, talk, hear, and see.

- Transportation to RCBC’s Health Sciences Center, 1000 College Circle, Mount Laurel, NJ and to clinical sites, mainly located in southern New Jersey.
