Administrative Medical Assistant

The Administrative Medical Assistant course prepares students for an entry-level position in the field.

This course will teach you solid administrative and clinical skills necessary to effectively maintain a medical office environment, from scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records to financial procedures and risk management. Upon completion of the course, you will be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED
Course fee includes: Textbook and certification exam (one attempt)
Some programs are grant-funded and may have no cost if eligibility requirements are met.

  • Scheduling and receiving patients
  • Preparing and maintaining medical records
  • Performing basic secretarial skills and medical transcription
  • Handling telephone calls and writing correspondence
  • Serving as a liaison between the physician and other individuals
  • Managing practice finances
