What are passing scores and do circumstances exist when a candidate is not required to pass the Praxis Core?

Cut off scores for Praxis Core
Qualifying scores for each sections include:

  • Reading (Test Code 5713): 156
  • Writing (Test Code 5723): 162
  • Math (Test Code 5733): 150

*new codes as of 9/1/19

Students with at least one of the minimum scores provided below are not required to take the Praxis Core:

SAT

  • If taken before 4/1/1995: Math 520, Reading 480
  • If taken between 4/1/1995 to 2/28/2016: Math 540, Reading 560
  • If taken on or after 3/1/2016: Math 570, 610 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or 30 Reading Section 

ACT

  • If taken before 8/28/1989: Math 23, English 20
  • If taken on or after 8/28/1989: Math 23, English 23 

 

What are the deadlines for candidates to pass the Praxis Core test?

Passing Praxis Core scores must be submitted by the April 30th prior to junior year. It takes about 2-3 weeks for the writing scores to be reported and math and reading scores are reported immediately. Students have to sit out about a month for retakes. Please take the Core early!

How do I register for the Praxis Core?

Go to www.ets.org/praxis. You can select RCBC as your test site or another location. Make sure you select New Jersey and Rowan University for the school you want your scores sent to.

Do I have to take all 3 sections separately?

No, you can register for the combination test (combined test code is 5752) and take all 3 sections in the same day. This is cheaper than taking the test separately. If you do not pass a section, you can go back and take just that section another day.

Praxis II Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5001) and Special Education Core Knowledge and Applications (5354). The Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects test has 4 subjects:

  • Reading and Language Arts (5002)
  • Math (5003)
  • Social Studies (5004)
  • Science (5005)
