Soccer Teams Advance to Region Semifinals

Burlington County College’s (BCC) men’s and women’s soccer teams are headed to the Region XIX Division I Semifinals next week. The teams are competing for a spot at the Region XIX championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Ocean County College.

The men’s team is seeded No. 1 and will play No. 4 seed Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at BCC’s Pemberton campus, 601 Pemberton Browns Mills Rd. The Lady Barons are seeded No. 4 and will face No. 1 seed Essex County College on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m. at Orange Park, Center and Harrison streets, Orange, NJ.

This season the men have an impressive record of 12-1-2 and were among the top teams in nation in weekly polls by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Jack Verth (defense) of Broxburn, Scotland, was named Player of the Year for Division I Region XIX Men’s Soccer. He is the top ranked player in the region and made the first team in both the All-Region XIX Team for Division I men’s soccer and the 2013 Men’s Soccer All Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Team for Division I. Ciao Machado (forward) of Burlington Township and Augusto Trento (midfielder) of Leominster, Mass., were ranked number three and five in the region, respectively. They were also named to the first team All-Region and All-GSAC. In addition, Ivan Gomez (midfielder) of Bronx, N.Y., was named to the first team All-GSAC.

The Lady Barons have an overall record of 4-10-1 and three players on the All-Region and All-GSAC teams for Division I women’s soccer. Kellie MacIntosh (forward) of Burlington made first team All-Region and All-GSAC, Megan Harvis (midfielder) of Delran made first team All-GSAC and second team All-Region, and Sarah Yannes (midfielder) of Edgewater Park is on the second team All-GSAC and All-Region.
