RCBC Dental Hygiene Director Appointed to New Jersey State Board of Dentistry

Linda Hecker

Rowan College at Burlington County’s dental hygiene director was recently appointed to the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry by Gov. Chris Christie.

The twelve-member panel, comprised largely of dentists and one hygienist, is part of the state’s Division of Consumer Affairs. It is responsible for protecting the health, safety and welfare of citizens by ensuring dentistry is performed in compliance with state law, that all dental professionals meet educational and licensing requirements, and investigating complaints related to consumer protection laws.

“Dental health is very important to one’s overall health and I look forward to working with dental leaders throughout the state to keep dentistry at the forefront of healthcare,” RCBC Dental Hygiene Program Director Linda Hecker said. “I am grateful for this opportunity, especially because it speaks to the high-quality dental hygiene program we have at Rowan College at Burlington County.”

Hecker has served as program director at RCBC since the program’s inception in 2004, earning and maintaining the program’s accreditation from the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. She is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association.

Under Hecker’s leadership, the RCBC dental hygiene program is among the best in the region. Last year, graduates achieved a 100 percent pass rate on all board exams and ranked second on the clinical exam among 112 schools that participate in the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment – which includes 23 states and Jamaica.

“Dental hygiene is a large part of our successful Health Sciences program,” said RCBC President Paul Drayton. “Linda Hecker deserves a lot of credit for this outstanding program and we are proud that she and the program are getting recognition on a statewide level.”
