On Wednesday, May 7, Burlington County College’s (BCC) men’s golf team captured the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 2013 Region XIX Division III Golf Championship at Cape May National Golf Club in Erma, New Jersey. After two days of challenging conditions on the green, BCC’s golf team came out on top with a score of 644, to outdistance the County College of Morris by 20 strokes. The team will be headed to compete in the NJCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship from June 3 to 7 at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

“Former head coach Dennis Gallagher had a tremendous team that consistently made it to the national championship and we are proud to continue this tradition of excellence,” said men’s golf head coach Glenn Nelson. “Even though golf isn’t something that would be considered a team sport, this win was a team effort. The men play individually and don’t even get to see each other hit the ball, but when one golfer doesn’t play as well, another golfer can keep the score low with a great round.”

Wade Sander of Hainesport scored a 75, his lowest score of the year, on the second day of the championship. “Going into the second day of the championship we were tied. Wade’s score was an important factor in helping to secure the win,’ said Nelson.

BCC’s Rob Singer of Southampton had a two-day score of 149 to earn medalist honors at the championship. Singer also has the lowest season score (73) and individual round average (76.6) in Region XIX.

The team consists of six golfers: Rob Singer, Wade Sander, Alexander Hampson of New Egypt, Corey Johnson of Westampton, George Inge of Pemberton and James Kramarski of Moorestown. Four of the golfers made the Garden State Athletic Conference’s (GSAC) 2013 All-GSAC Golf Team. Singer was named to first team and Johnson, Kramarski and Sander made the second team. Kramarski, Johnson and Hampson are all in the top ten for the lowest season scores and individual round averages in the Region.

Region XIX has 17 schools sponsoring golf this season, with 16 of those competing as Division III teams, while Lackawanna College is the sole Division II golf program in the Region.
