Institutional Assessment

At Rowan College at Burlington County we are dedicated to maintaining our national standing and  regional recognition as a premier center of higher education. Mindful of that dedication, we must commit the resources of the college to prepare our students with the 21st century skills and   knowledge needed for them to take their place as responsible citizens. The critical key to that success is the maintenance and expansion of our talented faculty and staff. To insure that our   students are acquiring the skill sets consistent with employment projections, the college must maintain the alignment of its programs with state and local workforce development needs and   further develop sustainable partnerships with both public and private colleges as well as business and industry.

Rowan College at Burlington County is committed to student outcomes assessment. Results of  assessment are used to improve teaching and learning, provide validation to internal and external   constituencies, support the college mission, and plan resource allocation.

Assessment Goals:

  • Create a sustainable college climate for assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Support and encourage flexible approaches to assessment.
  • Provide training for the assessment process to all full-time and part-time faculty members.
  • Use assessment results to improve teaching and student learning.

Rowan College at Burlington County’s Office of Compliance, Assessment, and Research (CAR) is responsible for offering guidance to faculty, staff, and administrators in its efforts to capture assessment data and create new opportunities to assess curricular processes and products along with a strong emphasis on academic trends and issues. We use a variety of internal and external assessment tools as well as administer national surveys. The final product will be verifiable evidence of student achievement in knowledge, skills, and critical thinking. We employ a continuous improvement cycle where results will be used to improve the quality of programs, to provide validation to stakeholders, and to aid in achieving the college mission and goals.

Continous Improvement Cycle

The figure depicts the steps in developing and implementing as assessment plan. The process is intentionally circular in order to evoke the idea of continual improvement.

Improvement Cycle: Determine Intended Learning Outcomes - Develop Assessment - Conduct Assessment - Develop Improvement Plan - Implement Plan
